Tesamorelin

GHRH analog FDA-approved for visceral fat reduction research.

Tesamorelin

Overview

Tesamorelin is a stabilized GHRH analog originally developed for the reduction of visceral adipose tissue (VAT) in HIV-associated lipodystrophy. It is one of the few GH-axis peptides with FDA approval and extensive Phase III data — particularly notable for its targeted effect on deep abdominal fat.

Mechanism of action

Tesamorelin binds the GHRH receptor in the pituitary, stimulating physiologic pulsatile GH release and downstream IGF-1 production. The resulting hormonal shift preferentially mobilizes visceral fat stores.

Reported benefits

  • Significant reduction in visceral (deep abdominal) fat
  • Modest IGF-1 elevation within physiologic range
  • Improved lipid profile (triglycerides, cholesterol)
  • Cognitive benefits demonstrated in early studies
  • Preserved or improved lean body mass

Research dosing

Research protocols use 1–2 mg subcutaneously once daily, typically at bedtime to align with natural GH pulses. 12–26 week cycles.

Considerations

More extensively studied in humans than most peptides in this catalog. Effects on visceral fat are typically visible by week 12 of consistent use.
